Rebuilding a Vital Resource for Kenya’s Trans Community

The Brief

The Trans Empowerment Initiative (TEI) is a queer and trans youth-led collective and registered Community-Based Organisation based in Kenya. Working across East Africa, TEI supports trans men, transmasculine, and gender non-conforming (TGNC) individuals, particularly refugees, asylum seekers, and those facing extreme marginalisation. The organisation approached Visualsnare to redesign their website.

The Challenge

The existing site suffered from fragmented information architecture, making critical resources hard to reach. Transmasculine individuals struggled to navigate shelter applications, prospective volunteers had no clear path to get involved, and the donation journey lacked the clarity needed to convert support into action. TEI also had no dedicated space to document the breadth of its project work across the region.

The Approach

Visualsnare was tasked with restructuring the site to streamline its core user journeys: shelter applications, volunteer sign-ups, and donations, while building a comprehensive projects section that reflects TEI’s regional impact. The redesign transformed the website into a functional tool for the community it serves and a stronger case for continued support.
