Giving Sauti Village the Reach to Match Its Mission

The brief

Sauti Village is a Nairobi-based community mentoring program founded by Jey Mbiro, focused on expanding what children in marginalised communities can imagine for their lives through one-on-one mentorship, Saturday programs, and talent development. Jey needed a website that could give the organisation global visibility, recruit mentors and volunteers, and support tiered donations for specific needs like school fees, supplies, meals, and program costs.

The challenge

The work happens locally, but the support has to come from everywhere. The site had to tell the story compellingly enough to move a stranger across the world, make mentor signup feel approachable, and structure donations so givers could see exactly what they were funding.

The approach

I designed the site around a clear information structure and hierarchy, sequencing content so visitors moved naturally from understanding the mission, to meeting the children and programs, to taking action. Within that structure, the donation and volunteer application features sat as key elements, placed where intent was highest, not buried behind extra clicks.

Donations were organised into tiers tied to specific needs (school fees, supplies, meals, field trips) so givers could see exactly what they were funding, and the volunteer application was framed as a community invitation rather than a form to fill out.
